To protect PV installations more and more efficiently, with the launch of the new OVR PV T2 P (TS), ABB can now offer a surge protection set, complete with T1+T2 and T2 arresters to cover all situations found in most PV installations.
An item with removable cartridge, it is suitable for installation at the origin of the system, in intermediate switchboards and near terminal equipment, and protect against indirect lightning strikes. It is also equipped with end-of-life indicator. In general, they are suitable for installation as close as possible to the sensitive equipment to be protected. Type 3 allows protection according to the 1.2/50 curve with a very low residual voltage level.
The surge arrester is a tool that can be mounted inside the electrical panel, thus upstream of the house installation. Its use makes it possible to put the electrical system on which it is installed into protection.
The surge arrester will protect the entire system from power surges, surges and spikes that may come from the power line operator, or from atmospheric phenomena such as lightning. These power anomalies can cause serious damage to devices connected to outlets.
An electricity surge can cause a pc hardware to break, or short circuit the boards of smartphones, tablets, and home appliances. In the event that the flow of energy suddenly increases dramatically, human life may even be in danger due to electrocution.
To prevent this from happening, it is therefore advisable to install a surge arrester.
Surge arresters are divided into three classes:
In class 1 we find devices to be used in areas where adverse weather phenomena such as thunderstorms and lightning usually insist (for example, in the mountains). In this case, the arrester is mounted in the electrical panel and can withstand several surges without being damaged. Discharge occurs in 350 microseconds, so excess energy does not reach the system.
In class 2 are surge arresters that protect the system from surges and spikes that may be caused by maintenance work on the line by the operator.
In class 3, on the other hand, we find those devices that offer even greater protection: in this case, the surge arrester is installed directly at the electrical outlets in the home.
