In Medium Voltage applications, standard CEI 0-16 ed. III, requires that UPS used for auxiliary power supply to the Interface Protection System (SPI) must allow energization of the system following a prolonged power failure to the UPS.

It is therefore necessary for the latter to be provided with a provision to maintain sufficient residual charge when the main circuit breaker is closed.
